Violin virtuoso T N Krishnan’s 80th birthday celebrations on Saturday at New Woodlands in the city was a weekend special for the legend’s fans and friends. Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty a connoisseur and a patron of fine arts had organized the function. The maestro was accorded a musical welcome by the Carnatica Brothers who rendered Entharomahanubhavulu a pancha ratna kriti by Thygaraja, a fitting welcome to a violin maestro.
Nalli Kuppuswamy welcomed the gathering and had an interesting correlation to point out. T N Krishnan was born the same year Nallis (textile chain ) was started. To symbolize this aspect an attractive backdrop depicting T N Krishnan 80 matched well with Nalli 80.
Lauding the hero of the day T N Krishnan for his unswerving adherence to classicism and his mesmeric style, Nalli Kuppusamy said he was drawn towards T N Krishnan as Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer made frequent references to him during their conversations.
Natarajan former director of DD gave a vivid account of his friendship with Krishnan and said that he was awestruck with his ingenuity .
R Krishnaswamy of Narada Gana Sabha placed Krishnan on a pedestal and heaped praises on him and said he marveled at his musical acumen.
Krishnan thanked the organizers and nostalgically recalled his tryst with violin. He made us catch a glimpse of his career where he assimilated not only the intricacies of music from the stalwarts of yester years but also imbibed their good qualities.
A scintillating recital by Carnatica brothers Sashikiran and Ganesh was the diadem of the Saturday soiree accompanied by Mullaivasal Chandramouli on the violin, Thanjavur Murugabhoopathy on the mridangam, and S V Ramani on ghatam.
Murali of Karthik fine arts had composed a song specially for the occasion.
