Animals walked on stage, a whole city was flown away, arrows caught
fire, fountains and stalls were erected, chariot passed by on stage.
Welcome to Maya Bazaar! Surabhi that is known for their blend of
mythology and magic on stage came real at the Music Academy recently
which was organized by evam. Maya Bazaar- an untold Love Story from the
Mahabharata was a treat to ones eyes as it transformed the whole
audience into children for 2hours.
Directed
by Late
A.Manohar
and written
by Malladhi
Venkata
Krishna
Sharma, the
audience
watched it
with
innocence
and
enjoyment.
The play
kicks off
with Narada
actually
flown in
from the top
to the
stage, which
is one of
Surabhi's
famous rope
tricks. The
love between
Abhimanyu,
Arjuna's son
and
Sasirekha,
Balarama's
daughter is
portrayed
very well.
How they
unite
despite
Balarama's
opposition
to the whole
affair forms
the rest of
the story.

Ghatodgaja,
children's
favorite and
his mother
Hidimba were
the show
stealers as
they had
lovely
make-up,
strong
devilish
voice and
stage
presence.
The scene
where
Ghatodgaja
gobbles up
ladoos after
ladoos was
well
applauded
not only by
children but
also by
adults. Here
the role of
Krishna, who
plays the
role of a
peace maker,
is played by
a lady and
the role of
Hidimba is
played by a
man; but
with so much
of
perfection
and correct
body
language.
Rakshasas,
the henchmen
of
Ghatodgaja
were played
by young
kids and the
2 year old
devil caught
everyone's
attention
the most.

Gautami,
"This is
seriously a
world class
drama and I
'am just
left in awe
and
admiration
seeing these
actors
perform so
well!"
Madhuvanti
Arun who
gave

on both the
days says,
"Those days
Purana
Nataka
existed and
after so
many years I
'am seeing
such a
mesmerizing
performance
by the
Surabhi
group. I was
at the edge
of the seat
even though
the language
is not much
familiar to
me. I
especially
liked the
way Hidimba
walks!"
Surabhi

a weekend
treat to
