When a student leaves school he is fraught with taking the right
decision of which career to choose. Results are out, everyone calls to
congratulate you and the next question they ask would be what next?
Which course are you opting for? All of us from childhood have various
aspirations but they are just out of mere allure by and large. The time
when you have to decide of what you really want, is this!
In such a situation various confusions haunt your mind. You parents
expectations, future of the particular industry, what are your friends
choosing and various other pressures. But if you are wise you will
choose based on an analysis of your strengths and goals. "If you happen
to get influenced by what others tell is good for you, or if you end up
not trying anywhere then you might get a course which will absolutely be
of no interest to you" says Meenakshi, who is fighting against the
wishes of her parents to do Journalism.
Gone are the days that only the usual courses made your parents
proud. There is a variety of interesting options available now and with
good established institutions preaching them.
Even when it comes to engineering and medicine there a lot more
specific courses being opted for than the usual. "I analyzed my
strengths and interests and I understood that I was really good at
organic chemistry. So I'm choosing to do petroleum and offshore
engineering. The job opportunities and the pay also seem to be excellent
in this field." says Vrishanka Vishwanath.
If you are someone who has had enough of science and math in your
life and you wish to take up a career that you are fanatical about, then
go ahead for you can excel only in what you are fond of. If you have
young ideas and a marvelous style, if you think you can make others
follow the trends that you set, then fashion designing is what is meant
for you. You get to design garments, and make your models showcase them
in ramps.
If you stand out of the crowd due to your innovative thinking, a
workaholic by nature and looking forward to earn a Lambo soon, then you
might try yourself with interior designing. "As I had the responsibility
of looking after my family business immediately after my 12th, I wasn't
able to take a course in a college. So I opted to do a diploma in
Interior designing and now I successfully got a job too and I'm able to
manage both the business and the job" says Deepa.
If you are a package of effective communication, self-confidence and
a gratifying personality who also likes to socialize, then you can
probably pick for Public Relations.
Adventure + Risk are what you are looking forward to? Then you might
be interested in a specialized training in a wide range of subjects such
as flying operation, aircraft maintenance and technical aspects of
flying, then Aviation could be a course that changes your journey.
If you are
inquisitive by
nature, hate
routines,
brilliant at
communicating
effectively and
also willing to
give your best
for your career
then taking a
course in
Journalism might
be the best
thing you ever
do! But yes, in
the same token
you must be
patient and
tactful. "Well,
firstly I wasn't
interested in
neither math and
didn't want to
take up
something I was
unconcerned of.
English is my
strong point and
I wanted to do
something based
on that. So I
came to a choice
of Journalism or
Literature.
Based on certain
priorities I
chose Journalism
and I have also
successfully got
a seat in a
well-reputed
college" says
Priyanka
Subramaniam
