More than 220 students participated in the Chennai District Championship conducted by the Boufuuukai Isshinryu Karate Association here in the city. The event held at the Sishu Vihar Community Hall, Luz Corner had students in the age group of 3 years to 50 years, both boys/men and girls/women from different schools and institutes participating with great enthusiasm. The students were evaluated on three different events - Kobudo (weapon), Kata (imaginary fight), and Kumite (sparing). This is the first time that such a tournament is being held in Chennai.
The occasion was graced by Mr. Karate Thyagaran, President, All India Karate Federation (AIKF), Mrs. Durgavathi Stalin, Mrs. Udayanithi Stalin, and Mrs. Sunita Vasan (w/o Mr. GK Vasan). Other eminent personalities from schools and institutions were also present during the event.
Sundar's Boufuuukai's Isshinryu Karate, has its head quarters at R.A.Puram Chennai. There are more than 10 branches across Chennai.
