Woman Slapped by Police Claims Hearing Loss

Chennai, April 13:  A woman who was slapped by a police officer while protesting against the relocation of a Tasmac shop at Samalapuram in Tirupur has complained of hearing loss.

During a crackdown launched by the police after a large group of people,including women, protested against the opening of a relocated TASMAC liquor shop in their area last evening, Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police (ADSP) Pandiarajan slapped the woman Easwari, in full public view, besides pushing other women.

The incident triggered protests and the local pelted stones at the police, who retaliated by resorting to a lathicharge to disperse them. Some people were injured in the police action. The incident, which was recorded in the cameras, went viral on the social media, resulting in a public out cry, with various women leaders and political parties, questioned the police official's act and demanded strict action against him.

According to Coimbatore hospital report, the woman slapped by DSP has suffered a loss of hearing.
