State minister for Tamil and Tamil culture K Pandiarajan and MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Friday came out in the open in support of TVS Motor chairman Venu Srinivasan, whose name has been dragged into “idol theft” cases connected to the Kapaleeswarar temple in Mylapore, Chennai.

Claiming that one cannot even imagine the fact that the leading industrialist’s name has been linked to such an allegation, they wanted his name to be de-linked from even the purview of police investigations into these cases.

The developments have come in the wake of Venu Srinivasan on Thursday seeking anticipatory bail from the Madras high court, after having come to know that his name has been linked to idol theft cases in these two temples, when he was overseeing temple renovation and consecration responsibilities. Further, Srinivasan had donated several crores from his personal source for renovating temples. When such is the case, one should not even link his name to investigations concerning idol thefts in temples in Srirangam and Mylapore,” Vaiko said.

After learning about the skill development initiatives of the TVS group under Venu Srinivasan, Vaiko said he sought time over a year back and met the former, who explained some of these initiatives in detail.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu minister Pandiarajan said one cannot even imagine that Venu Srinivasan’s name is linked to this. The development is quite surprising.
