Land Acquisition Begins

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) begins acquisition of land required to build the ambitious 107.55km network under Phase 2.

The project, awaiting Centre’s nod, is aimed at linking the northern and southern suburbs with the city centre.

Notices have been issued to owners of properties in Madhavaram, Sembium, Perumbur and Otteri, where corridor 3 and 5 is planned.

Construction will begin in a section of these corridors in 2019.

Owners who have issues handing over their land can present an oral or document as evidence in support of their objection before a revenue divisional officer and land acquisition officer within 30 days of issuing the notice.

Corridor 3 will link Madhavaram Milk Colony with Siruseri Sipcot, passing through major localities such as Perambur, Chetpet, Royapettah, Mandaveli, Adyar, Thiruvanmiyur and OMR.

Corridor 5 will link Madhavaram with Sholinganallur via Kolathur, Villivakkam, Maduravoyal, Valsarvakkam.
