Film exhibitors are looking to upcoming films of smaller scale such as ‘Asuravadham’, ‘Mr. Chandramouli’, ‘Kadaikutty Singam’ and ‘Tamizh Padam 2.0’ to revive Tamil film trade.

The Tamil film industry was banking on the Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Kaala’ to woo film-lovers back to cinema halls, but trade analysts report that the superstar has failed to live up to expectations.

After releasing in about 600 of the 1000-odd theatres in Tamil Nadu three weeks ago, theatre owners said that the film is now running only in less than 100 screens.

Many in the film industry believe that Rajini’s expected entry into politics and his recent comments on Sterlite protesters may have dented his market value.
