Chennai Metro Stations will soon go green

Chennai, June 18: Solar Energy will be soon used in metro stations for maintenance of trains and to run the facilities at the stations

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (Cmrl) has signed a contract with a Mumbai-based energy solution provider. With this Project CMRL will save around Rs 1 crore per annum.

The private company has to is expected to design, manufacture, supply, install, test and commission the solar photo-voltaic panels in 25 metro stations. Solar energy generated by these panels will be used for escalators, lightings, elevators, air-conditioning systems and electrical items used at the station premises.

Solar power generated through this panels are expected to satisfy the 90 percent of the annual energy requirement.
