Partibhan Kanavu

Director: Karu. Pazhaniyappan
Cast: Srikant, Sneha, Vivek, Manivannan, Nagesh Krishnamurthy, Ravi Prakash

A job to his liking and a woman after his heart. This was Partibhan's dream. Shifting jobs a dozen, he finally finds one he relates to. And the woman? He finds her too! As he stands by the wayside, idling away with his friends, he sees this pretty, carefree girl with a ready smile on her face. He watches her every day as she comes that way, and falls in love with her. His parents persuade him to 'see' a girl for marriage, and he reluctantly accompanies them, determined to reject her at the appropriate time. But he sees her, and to his sruprise same she's the girl who'd thawed his heart, and he consents eagerly.

But then Partibhan soon realises that the girl he'd admired from far, and the one he'd married had no similarities. Partibhan is dis-illusioned. To believe in his dream or reality? Fact or illusion? The girl who had appeared so carefree and modern, and the one who was now his wife, traditional and home-bound. Partibhan has to decide!

The debutant director (apprenticed with directors Partibhan, Ezhil & Dharani) has weaved an engaging tale of youthful dreams shattered; of a youth coming to terms with reality; sifting his dreams from the realities of life. A meaningful, sensitively handled film. For Srikant it's yet another feather in his cap. There's more maturity demanded of the role, than the playful youth of his earlier films. And Srikant has matched it in performance, rising creditably to the demands of the role, coming out vrey well in the scenes where he reveals his irritation to his newly-wed wife. And Sneha? She makes acting look so easy. It's a flawless performance from her as the carefree girl of the earlier part, and then as Partibhan's sober, traditional wife. One who knows she has failed him somewhere, but bides her time patiently to win him back. Vivek's comedy blends well with the rest of the film, and the actor to a large extent contributes to the film's entertaining value. Playing his wife and matching him stride to stride, is small screen's Devadarshini. Vidyasagar has composed some pleasant tunes like 'Kana Kanden', 'Enna Thavam Seithanai....'. Sathyajothi films returns to film production after a five-year gap. And it is to their credit that they have offered a decent, fairly engaging family entertainer.
