College-mates Kathir and Shweta, drawn to each other, strike up a good friendship, moving around in a gang. Along the way they fall in love, but not sure of each others feelings, are apprehensive about spoiling their friendship, by disclosure of their love. After some predictable and some lagging moments, heartburns and silent sufferings, and the impending marriage of Shweta, it's finally all is well that ends well. But not before the narration has slipped to heavy melodrama in the final scene.
So what's new? It's just another youth-based college campus caper, the scenes moving through college-time, vacations (to justify the title), and back to the college. The saving grace is the freshness of the teaming and the on-screen chemistry of the lead pair. Also the touches the director gives to the scenes related to the hero's interaction with his family. Like his anxious questions to his mother on the preparations, when he brings down his affluent friends for a visit. When he watches helplessly his younger brother struggling to eat with a fork, and sees Shweta putting her own fork down in silent sympathy.
Watchable is Srikant with his shy lop-sided grin, and the sincere manner by which he tackles his role. Endearing is Sneha with her 100 watts smile and the natural ease with which she emotes.
Noticeable is Venkat Prabhu (son of Gangai Amaran) who is spontaneous in his reaction. Forgettable is Karunas in a separate comedy track that sticks out like a sore thumb. Specialist in 'friendly appearances' is Gayatri Jairam, repeating the role of the rejected girl with her one-sided love. Hacked to death from film to film is the scene of the intended bridegroom of the heroine, who sees his wife to be snatched from right under his nose by the hero and the girl's own family, who have cleared all their misunderstandings and re-unite the duo. The rejected bridegroom stands around through all this like it was happening to someone else, a dumb look on his face. Will someone please tell him to show some expression, at least in the next film!
