It's meant to be a symbolic depiction of the Cauvery water problem and the running feud between the two neighbouring states to share its waters. The original Kannada version (H2O) had generated a controversy when first released in Karnataka, the film-makers forced to make some changes in the film. In this dubbed version the Kannada dialogues have been dubbed, with the Tamil ones intact.
Two men, one a Kannadiga, the other a Tamilian, staying in villages on either side of the Cauvery river, vie with one another for the hand of the rustic lass Kaveri, born of mixed parentage. Acting as a catalyst and fanning the feud is a mischief monger with political aspirations. After many scenes of violence and one-upmanship, a sage finally advices the duo to solve the problem amicably through a dialogue. With crazy costumes and loud acting, both Prabhu Deva and Upendra seem to be vying with each other for attention.
One doesn't know the intention of the director when he began the film. All we can say is that the director was terribly distracted during the making of it. By the obvious charms of the heroine Priyanka, who flits around the place in her two-piece minis, anything lesser would have brought on the charge of obscenity. Whether the director had managed to
put across his message or not, he has definitely managed to show 'Cauvery' in all her glory!
