Arai Enn 305-il Kadavul Movie Review

Chimbudevan who commenced his directorial venture with 'Imsai Arasan 23-m Pulikesi' , a Blockbuster comic entertainer about a nutty king has now shifted scenes to contemporary world with S Pictures 'Arai enn 305-il kadavul'. Treading safely his brand of humour, the director has whipped out a fantasy tale this time with more modern outlook.

'Arai enn 305-il Kadavul' essentially revolves around two mansion mates Mokkai and Raasu, both jobless and living at the mercy of others. The duo tries everything to make their ends meet but ending up on the receiving end. The rent arrears further worsen their situation and are thrown out of their mansion. Depressed and disillusioned Mokka and Raasu indulge in a scathing attack on God for letting them down amidst all odds. Gosh!........Enters Kadavul (Prakashraj) with a bang and with a Galaxy Power box the functional device that controls the world. Kadavul promises to be with them to observe their daily struggles and help them out. The turn of events........the duo trying to act over-smart with God and the sequences following the confusions form the rest of the film.

The story or the theme on the whole is not new which at times reminds us of My Dear Kuttichaathan and other fantasy tales. Chimbudevan's desperate efforts to differentiate the film from fantasy by fitting in Social messages does not seem to gel with the narration. At some stages of the film, you cannot help but feel you are watching a series of feel-good Ads. But, the director's smart strokes of wit and the humourous takes on the life saves the film to a great extent.

Prakash Raj is at total ease playing God. His assertive Body language and polite looks enhances his portrayal. But, somewhere his typical zest is missing giving a jaded look which makes him dull and dry. But, with all new faces around him, he carries the film on his shoulders.

The Film definitely marks an important phase in Santhanam and Kanja Karuppu careers. Both the comedians graduating to heroes with the film has utilised the opportunity well. Easily Kanja Karuppu is the pick of the two while Santhanam, who usually steals the show with his one liners has to play it subtle because of his characterization. But, the actor frequently miss the beat when it comes to portraying complex emotions. Hero stuff looks rather unfitting on him. Madhumita and Jyothirmayi are adequate in their roles.

Vidhyasagar's music is a great let down and is of no use to the film. In fact, the songs further slows down the tempo of the film.

On the whole, the fantasy elements and the feel-good factor might work well with the children and family audience. But, if you still harbour your expectations based on the director's earlier offering, you might be in for a disappointment.
