It is the duty of society to see that none is hungry or thirsty. The great Subrahmanya Bharathiyar said that if there is even one single hungry person in the world, that world does not deserve its existence.
It is unfortunate that many in TamilNadu continue to be thirsty. In Kannaginagar, a recent colony near Thorapakkam in the IT highway of Chennai, the only work of all family members in every household seems to be to look for potable water and fetch it home. They are all involved in this herculean task day in and day out. With the result, they are unable to do anything SOLID in their life!
The middleman naturally tries to make easy money by selling the life-blood of our body. They know pretty well that there is no life without water and one would pay any price for that. They get water from tankers and sell it at three rupees per pot. There is a serpentine queue to 'buy' water in Kannaginagar.
This is a bad enough news. The worse news is that in a village Keezhaththooval near Paramakkudi in Ramanathapuram Diastrict, school-going children are fetching water in cycles, at the behest of their teachers. What is the big fun in observing anti-child-labour days, when teachers themselves are the culprits?
It is hoped that the authorities would wake up to the reality and find a solution.
