India is one of the most ancient lands with many advanced souls.  Each master worked in one area all his life and came out with many secrets.  Our Rishis and Gurus who created the images of Lakshmi knew deep down that Money is not the end by itself and that there are many things beyond.

In today’s world where everything is viewed only with Money it is very important to understand the messages of our masters.  We have to Understand Money and also “beyond” Money.

Magic and Wonderment of Asthalakshmi

Hence in India, the Asthalakshmi was created with a great thought process.  Somehow we got too stuck to images and not what it represented.  We have to go beyond the form to comprehend the formless, the hidden message.

Asthalakshmis are the 8 forms of the Goddess Mahalakshmi depicting and representing a hidden message in each of its forms.  Now let us learn to find the inner secret of each form and what it represented.

The 8 forms of Lakshmi are:  Adi Lakshmi, Dhanya Lakshmi, Dhairya Lakshmi, Gajalakshmi, Santhanalakshmi, Vijayalakshmi, Vidyalakshmi and Dhana Lakshmi.

Adi Lakshmi: Adi Lakshmi is the original and the main Goddess lakshmi. The perennial and unchangeable, everlasting, eternal truth or the absolute is this Supreme blessedness, the mother Adishakti. She is the origin. She is the light. She is the power, the wisdom and the strength. She is the Supreme Joy, peace, bliss and illumination. Let us generate thoughts to be prosperous.

Dhanya Lakshmi: Dhanya means grains.  Food is the most basic need of the human being.  Without this life would not exist.  We all should have abundance of grains and not live in a shortage.  She symbolizes that this basic need should be available for all.  Let us earn enough to be able to feed our family and others in the society.

Dhairya Lakshmi:  Dhairya means Bravery.  Unafraid we should be keen moving ahead with wisdom to achieve our goals and ambitions. This form of mother Lakshmi grants the boon of infinite courage and strength. Those, who are in tune with infinite inner power, are always bound to have victory. Those who worship mother Dhairya Lakshmi they live and lead a life with tremendous patience and inner stability.  Let us bravely move towards our goals with the support of a great power working for us.

Gaja Lakshmi: In the holy book of Srimad Bhagavata the story of the churning of the ocean by Gods and demons is explained in detail. Author, the Sage Vyasa writes that Lakshmi came out of the ocean during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan). So she is known as a daughter of the ocean. She came out of the ocean sitting on a full-bloomed lotus and also having lotus flowers in both hands with two elephants by her sides, holding a beautiful vessel filled with milk and pouring it over Sri Lakshmi. Many a times we see Sri Lakshmi standing in the lotus and elephants are pouring nectar over her. During the festival of the lamps or the Deepavali along with Sri Lakshmi the Ganapathi or the Elephant God also gets worshiped; that signifies the protection from evils as well as abundant grace and blessings for additional prosperity!  Let us connect to the bountiful showering of grace in the form of material and spiritual from all the directions.

Santana Lakshmi:  The lineage continues only because of Children. What you created in this life, you can never take it back with you.  Hence if you have wise children the wealth is safe and keeps growing for many more generations. Many families are ruined only because their children fall into bad habits and destroy the wealth that the first generation has created.  So one should always pray and have thoughts that the children will take good care of them in old age and also help the money to grow by doing wise activities.

In the family life, the children are the greatest treasure. Those who worship this particular form of Sri Lakshmi, known as a Santana Lakshmi, are bestowed with the grace of mother Lakshmi and have wealth in the form of desirable children with good health & long life.  Let us create the thoughts that our children will take good care of us and the wealth we created.

Vijaya Lakshmi: Vijaya is victory. Vijaya is to get success in all undertakings and all different facets of life. Some are strong physically but weak mentally while others are economically rich but poor in their attitude and cannot exert any influence. Vijaya is to have all encompassing victory. Vijaya is to rejoice glory of our real nature - Vijaya is to conquer the lower nature and become mentally and physically strong.  Vijaya is the victory in conquering oneself internally.  Let us learn to be internally victorious so we can be victorious in the outside world.

Vidya Lakshmi: Vidya is education. Education is not mere studies to receive the degrees and diplomas certificates from the educational institutes or universities. Serenity, Regularity, Absence of Vanity, Sincerity, Simplicity, Veracity, Equanimity, Fixity, Non-irritability, Adaptability Humility, Tenacity, Integrity, Nobility, Magnanimity, Charity, Generosity and Purity are the eighteen "it is" that only can give immortality.

Education, which cannot give peace to the soul or cannot give the knowledge of the Self and the inner satisfaction, is not education. Education, which cannot wipe the tears of others, known or unknown, is not education. Education is the understanding the situation and silence or art of living and leading the life that can make the life, the Life Divine, where the ultimate Goal of the life is the God-Realization.
Such Education can come only through discrimination and dispassion. One can have abundant amount of money, but if he does not know how to make good use of it, it will work to his disadvantage. If an alcoholic or a drug addict gets a big sum of money, it will only hasten his downward journey to destruction. Vidya Lakshmi is the understanding and the knowledge to mold the ordinary life into the Divine Life. A life of Service, a life of feeling for a fellow being, a life of charity and generosity, a life of purity, a life for seeking a soul within the soul and a life with an ultimate aim of the realizati
on of the ABSOLUTE is the only real education, which can come only with the grace of Vidya Lakshmi.  Let us be holistic in our learning that will take us to the next level of our consciousness.

Dhana Lakshmi: Dhana is wealth. But as per Rigved´s Purush Shukta Dhana is not only a wealth in coins and currency. Even Sun and moon, fire and stars, rains and nature, oceans and mountains, rivers and streams, all these are our wealth, so are the progeny, our inner will power, our character and our virtues. The whole Universe is the Dhana by itself. With the grace of mother Dhana Lakshmi we will get all these in abundance.

In essence it is invoking the supreme power and understanding that we all should rise in richness both in material and in spiritual through the virtues or qualities of bravery, right knowledge thereby achieving success in our mission and being victorious. Let’s go “beyond”
