From childhood, Shreya has always displayed a great love and passion for the performing arts. Her avid interest in Bharatanatyam was fostered and encouraged by her grandmother Smt. Radha Nagarajan and her great grandmother Smt. Pattu Balagopal. Her interest in dance was further enhanced by her aunt, Smt. Ramya Harishankar and was initiated into Bharatanatyam by Smt. Revathi Ramachandran. Her commitment and zest for the art has been molded and enriched in the past 3 years, under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Radha.
Holding a under graduation in Psychology and a diploma in Arts Management from the Madras Craft Foundation, Shreya has a wide and varied range of interests.
Shreya has been an active member of the theatre community in Chennai and has been a part of several productions of the theatre group Masquerade, both on and off the stage. An amateur film maker, an interest kindled during her experience of volunteering at the INKO International Women’s film festival , Shreya has 4 short films to her credit. Since then, she has written and directed “Shattered”, a film on the effects of drunk driving. Another film, “Shades of Reality” was selected as a finalist for the SCARF International film festival on mental health in Chennai. “The Goddess Explored” is a film helmed by her that traced the roots of Goddess worship in the villages of Tamil Nadu and its significance to Tamil culture. She has also travelled to Kadammanitta village in Kerala to make a documentary on the rare and extraordinary art form of Padayani.
Besides having served as a risk assessment counselor in the All Women’s police station in incidences of domestic violence, she has helped organize fundraising activities for the Children’s Club, Mylapore.
Shreya loves flying and harbors ambitions of joining the Indian Air Force and she hopes to pursue a career in culture and media studies.
