For the Kids, by the Kids

One would have heard about charity organizations, NGOs and many more. But have you heard about an organization started solely by kids for the development of kids???? Yes! It our very own KFK International. KFK announces their third concert ‘Ablaze’ which will take place at Museum Theatre on 8th August 2009.

Kids For Kids

Kids For Kids (KFK) is an organization created exclusively by kids to help other kids. It was started in the year 2007 with the motto “Do what we can with what we have”. SO how did it all start? Rebecca Grace Abraham, 15, the President of KFK, says, “Our parents used to support a lot of kids in the orphanages and we used to go with them often and play with the kids. We became quite close to them and thought why not we help them because we know them better and are better related. We discussed about how to go about it and came up with the idea of “concert” as we all know to sing and play instruments. That’s how we raise funds.”

Ben Subarao, the facilitator for KFK, says, “It is solely the kids’ ideas, their work and we as adults guide them. The spirit comes out from them. This organization will set an example for many kids to understand that they are not too young to reach out”.

The very interesting part of this organization is that their members belong to the age group between 5 and 20! They are a team of 25 members as of now and they are getting bigger. The forthcoming concert plans to adopt 80 underprivileged school kids from the outskirts of Chennai. The concert is free and open for all. Anyone willing to help could donate for the organization.

The KFK aims at extending their hands to kids and work for their education, development and much more. They raised funds through concerts “The beginning” and “Arise” and the funds were used to support 21 HIV + kids and 80 Sri Lankan refugee children for their education. They also collect funds through creative methods like making and selling terracotta and beads jewellery, greeting cards, stickers, paintings and pot paintings. They have already started selling greetings card and jewellery to companies.

This initiative by the kids brings out the essence that age is no limitation to work for a cause or help someone. A motivating move to help the deprived!
