It used to be common to hear statements like the chat in Bombay is the best, Chennai chats lack the original aroma and so on and so forth. Now, when someone even mentions the above statements, you can vouch and say that they are wrong. Yes, it is Kailash Prabhat, a famous chaat food joint form the north, to prove the old notions incorrect.

Kailash Prabhat, a restaurant that serves authentic north Indian food on the Harrington Road is definitely the place for all chaat lovers. This place gets my taste buds dancing everytime I visit. The lip smacking chat platter, the cheesy bhaturas, the side dishes and the main course every single item has the typical taste that gets your reminded of the chaat stalls up north. Don’t forget to have their cold jaljira for digestion after all the high calorie food.
Now to things which might irk you. Ever crowded, go there when you slightly hungry, the food will reach you, when you are completely hungry. Service not up to the mark, but what can they do if people flock in continuosly. Chefs seem to be too liberal with the oil, guessing if this is one factor that adds on the taste. If you are calorie conscious then this is not the place for you.
Prices are on the higher side. Claiming to provide authentic chaats is probably their ticket to pricing even a simple chaat at an exorbitant rate. You get to see the chaat being prepared in a neat open cooking area and the other elaborate menus are cooked in another kitchen.
Apart from the chaats, the sweets made in Kailash Prabhat also stand out. The hot crispy Jalebis, kaju katlis, and spongy gulab jamuns will keep you wanting more. The root of Kailash Prabhat is a history of surviving the partition of India and Pakisthan. The origin of this restaurant dates back to the late 1940’s, setting up chaat stall in Karachi.
