Students of The CK School of Practical Knowledge, a unit of the Chinnikrishnan Memorial Trust established by FMCG conglomerate CavinKare, set a new Limca World Record by carving 15,000 flowers from vegetables in record time of 10 minutes and setting them in the shape of the world map measuring 50x30 feet, which denoted literacy levels in each continent and poverty levels of the world.

The world map was made using flowers carved in the Thai vegetable carving style from 600 kilograms of radish. Mr. D. Chandrasekaran, Director of CK Group of Institutions commented about the record saying, “The radish is a very difficult vegetable to carve with and the students had to learn to use the knife in order to finish the carvings within the time given to them. This was a challenge but our approach is to encourage students to do what seems impossible.”

The event also showcased a special ‘Koodankulam’ project and its importance was explained by the students, live sculpture and painting which were appreciated by the guests and a fusion programme including live orchestra, dances, singing and yoga performances.

The 550 students aged from 11-15 years from standard 6 to 10 participated in the event which was organized as part of the Life Oriented Education (LOE) and the Business Module Class (BMC) Science Exhibition conducted by the school.

The event was graced by chief guest Dr. Rathinasabapathy, Registrar of Annamalai University and guests of honor Ms. Smita Thomas, Assistant Editor of the Limca Book of Records and Mr. C. K. Subramanian, Cuddalore Municipality Chairman.
