Comedian Vadivelu was spotted at Gopala Krishnan Street in T. Nagar, the heart of Chennai on the other day.  He was inaugurating a restaurant named cheekily as 'Vaanga Saappidalam!', owned by industrialist-turned-actor R.K.  RK has done a couple of films in 'Ellam Avan Seyal' last year and 'Azhagar Malai' this year.  Incidentally, Vadivelu played major roles in both these films.

Why Vadivelu instead of a popular hero?  Says RK: "The name of the restaurant starts with 'V', which means V for Victory.  Similarly, Vadivelu started off in Kollywood in miniscule roles before coming up the ladder the hard way and establishing a name for himself.  Vadivelu not only inaugurated the hotel, but also entered the spacious kitchen and then treated himself to a sumptuous lunch.

Vadivelu made it a point to stare into the flashing cameras belonging to satellite TV Channels and popular channels and invited them 'Vaanga, Saappidalam', indirectly referring to the name of the hotel itself!  Laughter rent the air as Vadivelu moved from the dining room to the recreation room, where a large Snooker Board had been erected.  Vadivelu likened the Snooker Board with the gilli played by street urchins and said that he was a one-time gilli champion!
