SIP Academy India the Indian arm of SIP Academy SDN BHD Malaysia conducted the 9th International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic contest, The SIP Prodigy 2009 at the Chennai Trade Cente. The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation with over 3000 children from 5 countries including India engaging in the contest. Children between 7 years to 12 years were tested on their abilities of mathematical computations and some of these children were lightning fast in their working. It the first time that Chennai hosted an international abacus and mental arithmetic competition.

Children from Malaysia, Philippines, UAE, and Sri Lanka participated in the event. Participants from India were from among the 460 SIP Learning Centres across 200+ cities in 20 states. The children exhibited their prowess in numerical abilities using their skills learnt through the SIP Abacus and Brain Gym programme. The competition - Level 1 to the Grandmaster Level (11 levels within 14 categories) tested the concentration, confidence, intelligence, speed and accuracy of the participants. The objective of the competition was to develop a competitive spirit amongst these children and motivate them to excel in the programme.
On the occasion, Chennai-based NGO Mohan foundation, along with SIP Academy, organized a special talk on 'Organ Donation' with the aim to sensitize parents and society towards the noble cause.
SIP Academy has entered in to the Limca Book of Records twice for organizing 2 International Abacus & Mental Math Competitions at Bangalore 2005 and Sri Lanka 2008.
