Dateline CHENNAI

No parking’ boardIn Chennai, whenever and wherever you want to park your vehicle, you will see the ‘No parking’ board. The latest is as amazing as it is amusing. Let alone your vehicle; it seems you cannot park yourself at a few places. For the first time, the Chennai police has installed ‘no standing’ signboards on a few roads in the city!

The boards are seen at the VVIP routes, usually used by the CM and the former CM. I think this is taking optimization of security too far!

You cannot stand still. You must go!

new Tamil Nadu AssemblyWhile on the subject of security, another one here. The Chennai police have prepared a Rs 24 crore 'expansive' security project for the new Tamil Nadu Assembly-Secretariat complex, that was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday.
For the visit of the VVIPs, including UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, for the inauguration, Police  took complete control of the building by the evening on Thursday and more than 5,000 personnel, including armed policemen and intelligence sleuths, guarded it. The MRTS services remained suspended from 4.45 pm on Saturday till the police gave the clearance to resume services, keeping in mind the presence of many VIPs including Union Ministers and Chief Minsters of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Vehicluar traffic on arterial Anna Salai, leading to Omandurar Government Estate where the sprawling Assembly complex is located, was totally stopped from 4 pm till the leaders left.
As part of security measures, "storming operations" (raids) had been conducted in various places in the city.
Security is an attempt to try to make the universe static so that we feel safe!

Congress President Sonia GandhiCongress President Sonia Gandhi, on a flying visit to the city for the inauguration of the new Tamil Nadu Assembly complex, took some time off to visit the TNCC headquarters, Satyamurthy Bhavan on Saturday. She spent about five minutes and witnessed the proceedings of the district level Youth Congress elections underway there.

As Charles de Gaulle said, a true leader always keeps an element of surprise up his sleeve, which others cannot grasp but which keeps his public excited and breathless.

Nityananda SwamiThe godman Nityananda Swami, who was caught in sleazy video footage, has said the video was morphed and manipulated to misrepresent his personal life but did not deny his images with actress Ranjita in the film.
"There is a lot of misrepresentation, manipulation, conspiracy and morphing. We are working which part is recorded in a conspired way, which part is morphed, which part is misrepresented," Swami told Times Now news channel.

He said the girl in the video was his devotee and she was taking care of him when he was ill. "She was serving me for a long time. She was volunteering and serving me and taking care of me when I was sick for a long time. There is no denying that she was, she is and she will remain a devotee," he said.

He said he became sick last December, when the actress volunteered and served him. He was physically unwell and was "consciously in a deep samadhi", he said.
Swami, who has been slapped with cases of cheating after the video footage came to light on March eight, said the video will be sent to experts to find out the portions morphed in it. "I believe I do not have any lust. 100 per cent I am sure that I do not have any need for other person," Swami, who is currently in Haridwar, said.

Truth is generally the best vindication against slander.

post officePaying the EB Bills is always a problem. A lot of streamlining, I think is called for. The good news is that the Tamil Nadu Circle of the Postal Department has entered into an agreement with Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) to facilitate the customers to pay their electricity bills through post offices.
Initially the facility is available at Anna Nagar post office (PO) and Anna Road head Post offices. The scheme is slated to be extended to more Post offices covering the entire city and other parts of the state shortly.

And God said, 'Let there be light' and there was light, but the Electricity Board said He would have to wait until Thursday to be connected. (Spike Milligan)

The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic ResearchThe Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research near Chennai has developed the country's "first" Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) that can help treat mentally challenged people and heart ailments.
SQUID's sensitivity is so high that it is possible to detect even the tiny magnetic field associated with physiological activities of the human heart and brain. This device, which was indigenously made couple of days back at the IGCAR unit, would be useful to cure mentally challenged people. The device would help identify defective nerves to enable doctors treat them and also help treat heart ailments. The device would be made available for public very soon.

The IGCAR is also working on a diagnostic tool which would detect breast cancer at very early stage. With the device, infrared thermal imaging, surface mapping of temperature using infrared sensors, would be used to identify the presence of diseases like cancer or for monitoring recovery processes such as wound healing.

Studies carried out using infrared thermography indicated that the technique is effective for non-invasive diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease with good correlation of clinical findings.

On biomaterials research, the process of wear and tear of implant materials was being studied extensively using sophisticated techniques such as bioferrography. This research would help in developing improved materials to extend the lifetime of orthopaedic implants such as knee and hips.

Even if you consciously ignore what is happening in your cells, there is a level of conscious information that is being exchanged just below the level of awareness….. By bringing your conscious mind into the loop, you are adding to this communication.(Deepak Chopra}
